One of the most advanced Smart City systems ever to be trialled in the UK is about to be tested in streetlights in Essex.

Australia’s seaside city of Newcastle has launched a massive new smart lighting scheme, which is set to form the spine of the city’s expanding and lavish smart city strategy.

Tata Consultancy Services, a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organisation, today unveiled intelligent software that allows cities to derive greater value from costly LED lighting by reducing the typical four to five year payback period almost in half.

Each year there are more than 10,000 traffic accidents in Singapore, many of them involving pedestrians. In response to these figures the Singaporean Land Transport Authority (LTA) has launched a six-month trial to see if LED light strips can improve safety at pedestrian crossings.

Controls company Echelon has installed a trial roadway LED lighting system in Spokane that uses onsite intelligent cameras to detect traffic patterns and adjust illumination accordingly, without tapping remote information.
